Bio: Artist Tanji Emmeni
Finally, a recording artist that has something of essence to say, something we want to hear, and undeniably something we need to hear. Her name is, Tanji Emmeni, and ironically it means “Messenger of Faith” and boy does this dynamic songstress & writer have a message and now she is ready to declare it to the world. She is the third child born into a family in Northern Louisiana who thought it important to keep God first & raised their children to do the same. So, it was only natural that Tanji, whom her mother says began, singing at the age of two, would capture her first audience singing at the church her family attended. By 2nd grade she began writing songs and continued to sing in church, in the chorus and talent shows through her grade & high school years. A range of artists influenced her at different times: Early on, gospel greats such as Mahalia Jackson, Andre Crouch, The Hawkins Family, James Cleveland and Shirley Ceaser, and later pop artists of the times like Prince and Michael Jackson. She also took notice of artists like Dolly Parton and Barbra Streisand. According to Tanji it was in college where her love for music began to expand beyond the gospel roots of her youth to greats such as Aretha Franklin, Patti La Belle, Marvin Gaye, and Bob Marley. While attending college she enjoyed participated in the university choir and even competed in a slew of talent shows, but chose make her studies her primary focus, and tuck her passion aside for a while. After college Tanji moved to Los Angeles and settled into a “normal life” as a teacher. But little did she know that soon, one simple chance meeting would beget an invitation and a stirring up of her true passion once again, Music. The invite was to The World’s Stage, a well-known artist hangout in the Leimert Park area of Los Angeles. This is where Tanji participated in the jazz vocal workshop, spring concerts and countless jam sessions. It was not long before Tanji began slipping into the studio here and there to sing background and write with other artist. Then, at the urging and encouragement of her friends and family she was catapulted into dusting off her own personal library of original songs and putting them to music. Tanji was blessed with the opportunity to work with several sought after producers who desired to help her realize her dream and birth this project. Her project is honest, unique, and unlike anything you have heard in a longtime, if ever. Tanji’s pieces are filled with lessons, advice, experiences, dreams & even anthems about life, love & desire. In her own words, Tanji describes her music as “genuine” she hopes people not only enjoy listening to her jazzy, soulful pieces, but that they “hear a positive message.” This budding artist is poised, professional and very down to earth, and her project is bursting with expressive lyrics coupled with the ideal melody. This seemingly effortless combination is bound to satisfy all music lovers and will without a doubt secure Tanji Emmeni—Messenger of Faith, a solid career and a faithful following.
